Gerald
Day Moved his family from Bountiful, Utah to Heber Valley on
July 1st, 1972. After spending 18 years with Albertsons, he
decided it was time to start his own business where he could
make decisions that would be best for his Guests, and move
his wife Lela, and his children away from the rush of the
Wasatch Front. Upon arriving in town The Day's took over
operation of what was known as the Heber Exchange, a Pioneer
structure with two floors, located at Center, and Main Street.
In July
of 1973, Day's Market opened a 11,000 square foot store, just
behind the old Exchange building. In 1979, and in 1986 the
store was remodeled, and enlarged by 5,000 square feet for
each remodel. During this time Gerald served 22 years on the
Board of Directors of Associated Foods, the largest
supermarket warehouse in the Mountain West, 12of those
years as Chairman. Over the years Days have owned stores in
Heber City, Park City, Vernal, Alpine, Hyrum, Provo, Payson,
Nephi, and Diamondville, Wyoming.
Many
changes have taken place in the Day's organization through the
past twenty six years. Along with the new Heber store, Day's
still operate a store in Provo, Utah. After an intense search
for the right location, Day's Market opened its newest, and
most modern facility at 890 South Main Street on February 23,
1998. Gerald's four sons Byron, Alan, Steve, and Carl bought
the rights of the Heber operation, and will continue to
operate as Day's Market. The store is 43,000 sq ft, features a
nostalgic farmers market environment that includes an
authentic cider mill and thematic decor. About 1/3 of the
store is devoted to a food court featuring fresh produce,
deli, bakery, bulk foods general merchandise and floral
departments. An open ceiling, period decor and special
lighting create a farmers market-like atmosphere. The
remainder of the store is constructed with a drop ceiling,
conventional shelving and soft fluorescent lighting. The store
offers the convenience of a branch office of America First
Credit Union, a pharmacy, as well as full lines of grocery,
frozen, dairy, and health and beauty care items. Construction
began in July of 1997. Day's Market in Heber City is a member
